Iron bark occurs principally in Victoria. In Tasmania it occupies a restricted coastal belt in the east from near St. Helens in the north to the Freycinet Peninsula in the south.
This species is found on undulating to hilly country from near sea level to the slopes of the coastal ranges and tablelands.
Except as a poorer tree, it is not found on flats or plains.
It grows on a wide range of soils and is usually found on those sandy types over well-drained clay.
Eucalyptus sieberi inhabits open forest, tall open forest or woodland, often in pure stands.
